Watercolour Cards

Welcome back, everyone! Here's another post from my recent cards.

Watercolour cards are a new area of practice for me. I'm not comfortable yet with using watercolour paints and a brush, so I've gone with watercolour pencils. These are incredible! If you know anything about me, it's that I love using pencils to colour in.

I have a two-fold reason for using pencil and cheep pens:

  • I don't have ANY Copic markers or anything of the sort, and I know how to blend pencils. (Copic markers are on my birthday list...)
  • Pencils are also easily accessible for most people, and I want to share ways of creating cards that others can go ahead and do. I know what it's like to have only a few crafting supplies.

So without further ado, here's my watercolour card!
(And yes, I am spelling that correctly! It's the Australian spelling of the words that I use, and I'm not going to change!)
Watercolour pencils work the same way that normal pencils do. Just don't press too hard, and wait for the water to dry before adding colour. You can either spray your paper with water, or do what I did and use a water brush. Any old paint brush and water will work too.

I used my @altenew water brush to spread out the pencil colour, and it was so easy.
I also used embossing powder for the sentiment, which is from @averyelle Simple Sentiments. I LOVE this set, I use it soo often for the insides of cards or small sentiments, it's perfect for a lot of varieties!

I also enjoyed putting some Nuvo Drops from @tonicstudios on there. Nuvo drops are one of my guilty pleasures (please don't tell my bank account!) and I've probably got too many. Nah, I need more.....

That's it for now! I hope you like this card, and maybe my creations give you some ideas to try yourself!

Don't be a stranger!

  1. This is such a beautiful card and I love that you used things that are easy to obtain (not to mention much more affordable!) for most people. I also love that you're using the Australian form of spelling watercolour. That's awesome. I have some colored pencils that are from England that are spelled that way (coloursoft) and I never knew that Australians used the same spelling.

    1. Thank you Sam! I found out why Australian spelling is different to American too - when the telegraph came into play in America, and you had to pay via the letter, all unimportant letters in a word were dropped. So 'colour' became 'color' Fascinating!
